Gigabyte H61M-S2PV Intel Socket 1155 motherboard review

This is an excellent all round motherboard for an Intel CPU based system build. It’s a very versatile Intel socket 1155 based board, supporting third generation Intel Ivy Bridge CPU’s such as Intel Celeron, Celeron Dual Core, Pentium Dual Core, Core i3, i5, i7 processors. The board also utilises DDR3 RAM. All this comes at a very reasonable price point and get’s a 4.5 out of 5 star rating in eye’s’.

It also supports 4 S-ATA ports for plenty of hard-drive expansion.

The only lacking feature that let’s it down is lack of HDMI out natively, otherwise, it’s a really excellent board. It’s also good for gamers as it supports the latest PCI 3rd generation interface, delivering maximum data throughput for the high-end graphics cards.

This board in our opinion, would form the basis of a great all-round system build, that has a support for a wide range of CPU’s, anything from a budget home/home office PC, to a gaming rig, or a creativity PC, such as for recording studio’s or graphic designers and the like.

Board features

  • All new design of Ultra Durable 4 classic
  • Supports 3rd Gen. Intel® 22nm CPUs and 2nd Gen. Intel®Core™ CPUs (LGA1155 socket)
  • Unique On/Off Charge delivers the best recharging capability to iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
  • Supports 3rd generation PCI-Express interface
  • DVI interface for smoother HD video playback
  • Industry’s Leading All Solid Capacitor Design
  • Touch BIOS™ delivers No Need for Reboot to more easily modify BIOS settings
  • Enhanced Intel HD Graphics 2000/3000 integrated with the processor
  • Innovative Smart 6 technology for smarter PC management
  • DualBIOS™ protection with 3TB+ HDD boot up capability

Durability – on board protection built-in

This motherboard should be pretty durable as it features Gigabytes Humidity protection, and short-circuit protection, protecting against damp and electrical damage. Another useful feature is the Dual BIOS, or die-hard BIOS as it used to be called. With two BIOS’s the board should never be really non-bootable as there should always be one BIOS functioning, and if one BIOS becomes corrupt, it copies itself over to the other BIOS.

EFI BIOS and 3TB+ Support

The H61M-S2pv supports hard drive capacities in excess of 3TB, as hard drive’s are ever increasing in capacity, so the motherboards need to keep up. It also features the newer EFI BIOS.

Conclusion recommends this board as  an excellent all-round board for an Intel 3rd generation Socket 1155 based  processor system build.
